Stephen Kenn
Stephen Kenn creates innovative furniture using unique materials and meticulous processes - everything from sofas constructed with fabrics left over from the US Army to an entire collection inspired by sailing and sailcloth.
Stephen moved to the City of Angels, Los Angeles, from Edmonton back in 2004 with the dream of building the denim business he started at 20 years old. As the years went by, his love and passion for design grew stronger and stronger. Once he stumbled upon a few old dismantled pieces of furniture, he found his calling: furniture and interiors. Together with his wife, Beks Opperman, they run their design studio from the heart of Los Angeles, where they create unique furniture of the highest quality.
Stephen and Beks have a welcoming and admirable way of running their business. They believe that a good and open community is essential to a healthy design practice, so they have incorporated an open house policy into their showroom and studio as often as they can. They regularly open their doors to the public, hosting morning coffee and cocktail evenings that build relationships.
The Inheritance Collection from Stephen Kenn
Stephen Kenn has long been inspired by clean and simple design aesthetics and vintage military fabrics. In 2011, he combined these two loves to create The Inheritance Collection. The collection was born out of Stephen's curiosity and exploration into how furniture is constructed and then discarding the superfluous, leaving behind simple and clean lines.
Created in Los Angeles, the collection draws inspiration from the distinctive principles of Soviet modernism and bold interpretations of Brutalist architecture through simplification of form, receptive geometry and functional design.
The furniture from the Inheritance collection is something special. They all consist of a steel welded frame with a marbled brown finish. The cushion covers are made from recycled WW2 military fabric. World War II military fabric that is recycled. Talk about being sustainable. The cushions are held in place by belt loops.
Stephen Kenn continues to design extraordinary products for the home using materials that no one else has thought of. Explore our unique range of Stephen Kenn furniture.
