Somay Berber Teppich

"In comparison to the mostly rather simple Berber carpet designs, the Somay Berber carpet at first glance appears rather untypical for a classic Beni Ourain. Its intense colors and modern design in particular make it a contemporary and unique piece.

The Somay Berber carpet has a centered design structure. The center is formed by a triangle that is divided lengthwise into two color areas. The supposed tip of the triangle ends in a royal blue bar that seems to catch it and forms a balanced counterpart to the much larger triangle.

The Somay Berber carpet comes from the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, a huge high mountain range in northwest Africa, and is a typical Beni Ourain Berber carpet. The manufacturing process takes place in a traditional and 100% natural way, starting with the procurement of the raw material, through the dyeing of the yarn, to the knotting of the carpet.

Because the wool is made by hand, a natural layer of fat remains on the fibers when it is washed, which makes the carpet self-cleaning, so to speak. As is typical for most Berber carpets, this Beni Ourain also has fringes on one side and a narrow kilim beam on the wide sides.

As with all of our carpets, we recommend an anti-slip mat for this Berber carpet, but at the same time we would like to point out another quality feature of our Berber carpets. A high-quality Berber carpet always has a certain weight of its own and therefore literally clings to the floor. The feel is of course also crucial for the quality of a Berber. The classic Berber carpet must be fluffy, easy to grip and at the same time soft like sheepskin."
